The Department of Hindi was established in the academic session 1998-99. At present, the Department is an integral part of Gurucharan University and continues to contribute to teaching and research activity. At the initial stage, the Department had only MIL (Modern Indian Language) course and was run by a single ad-hoc lecturer. Later, Elective Hindi course was started in the session 2001-2002. Since then, Hindi as both MIL & Elective courses are being taught.
At present, the department has one permanent faculty member, supported by Teaching Assistants who are appointed from time to time as per requirement. Despite limited manpower, the department has consistently maintained its commitment to academic excellence and the promotion of Hindi language and literature.
The department offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs and has introduced the Ph.D. Programme in Hindi from the academic session 2026–27, with two research scholars currently enrolled.
The Hindi Department also has a library which was opened in 2006 with 50 books. After a few years of its initiation the number of books has increased to 150.
As part of its academic activities, the department celebrates ‘Hindi Divas’ with lectures by resource persons.
